Invincible
Starts as a superhero cartoon and turns, in one episode, into something else. Three seasons, the family at the middle of it, and a hundred and forty-four issues that finished on their own terms.
Think, Mark.
Nolan Grayson, mid-fight
Everything about the presentation is deliberately ordinary: bright costume, high school, a supportive dad who happens to be the strongest man on the planet. The art is clean and friendly and the first issues read like a book you have read a hundred times before.
That is the setup. The last page of the first episode, and the matching beat in the comic, is the moment the genre it has been imitating stops being available to it, and both versions spend everything afterwards dealing with the consequences instead of resetting.
