Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen started it in 1994 to be the studio Disney would not let them run, and for about a decade it was the only one seriously taking animation off Disney. Shrek won the first Academy Award ever given for an animated feature, and it won it against Monsters, Inc.

The house style is the opposite of Pixar's: louder, faster, much more willing to be stupid, and then every so often far more serious than it needed to be. Two of its films sit high enough on this site to have tiles of their own, and both are in the index further down as well.
