Indiana Jones
Archaeology as an action sport, with the best-scored opening scene in cinema. Five films, five artifacts that belong in a museum, and a man who is wrong about where X is.
It’s not the years, honey. It’s the mileage.
Indiana Jones
Archaeology as an action sport, with the best-scored opening scene in cinema. What holds these films up forty years later is that almost none of it is faked: the boulder rolled, the truck chase happened, the tank went off the cliff, and the rope bridge in Sri Lanka was built so it could be cut.
And the whip is the reason the character works. Give a hero a gun and every problem has the same answer; give him ten feet of leather and every problem needs a different one. It swings him across a gap, takes a pistol out of somebody’s hand, and pulls his hat back off the floor, which he will always, always go back for.
