Somehow a LEGO toy line grew into a genuinely good sixteen-season saga. Six ninja, one element each, and a continuity most franchises would envy.

Ninja-GO! Kai · Master of Fire

The Sword of Fire, forged by the First Spinjitzu Master out of the same power he used to build the world, and hidden in the Fire Temple with a dragon sitting on it. It melts through stone, and Kai, a blacksmith before he was ever a ninja, is the only one it was ever going to go to.

A LEGO toy line that had no business becoming a sixteen-season saga with real continuity, real stakes and characters who visibly grow up. It has been running since 2011 and it never got worse.

Spinjitzu

Spinjitzu

Unlock your true potential, spin, and the element comes with you: fire red, lightning blue, earth black, ice white, water silver, and green for the one who can use all of them.

The show sold it as a toy gimmick first, a spinner you actually bought in a shop, then spent sixteen seasons building a mythology underneath it: the First Spinjitzu Master, the four golden weapons, the realms, and a prophecy the whole thing pays off.

Fire

Kai · red

The first ninja recruited and the one who charges in before the plan is finished. A blacksmith before he was anything else.

Lightning

Jay · blue

Inventor, motormouth, and the comic relief that keeps turning out to matter more than anyone expected.

Earth

Cole · black

The strongest and the steadiest of them, and a trained dancer before he was a ninja, which the show never lets him forget.

ColeBlackStrength

Ice

Zane · white

A Nindroid who did not know he was one, and the first of the six to die and come back as something else.

Water

Nya · silver

Samurai X before she was ever a ninja, the better mechanic of the two Smith siblings, and the last of the six to get her element.

Energy

Lloyd · green

The Green Ninja of the prophecy, son of the villain, and the element that only shows up when all the others are in place.

The Four Golden Weaponsforged by the First Spinjitzu Master

Made out of the same power he used to create Ninjago, split up because no one person should hold all four, and hidden across the map behind a dragon each. Season one is one long fetch quest for these, and it is a very good one.

Sword of Fire

Kai · the Fire Temple

Melts through stone. Guarded by a dragon, and taken by a blacksmith.

Nunchucks of Lightning

Jay · the Floating Ruins

Calls a storm down on command. The loudest weapon for the loudest ninja.

Shurikens of Ice

Zane · the Frozen Wasteland

Freeze whatever they touch. A matched pair, thrown together.

Scythe of Quakes

Cole · the Caves of Despair

Splits the ground open. The heaviest of the four, for the strongest of them.
